Jake Cordes, a recent graduate of Farmington High School, has announced his intentions to run for Farmington School Board in the 2012 election.
“After months of personal reflection and conversation with my family and friends, I am excited to announce my candidacy for Farmington School Board in the upcoming election,” Cordes said in his announcement.
In his announcement, Cordes said the school district needs to investigate alternative ways to improve and provide a 21st century education, including innovation in the classrooms; recruiting and retaining the best and brightest teachers; and bringing new, diverse and youthful perspectives to the Farmington School Board.
In addition his own unique perspective, Cordes believes the school board should coordinate all school board issues with teachers as well as students. He would like to see the school board engage in active listening with the student population, with their equal participation.
Cordes promised to focus on three key areas to develop the school district: providing the students a top-tier 21st Century education, bringing fiscal responsibility to the board, renewing a sense of duty and respect to the school board.
