Farmington's Meyer wins Athena Award
Taylor Meyer’s senior basketball season was interrupted by an injury, but that didn’t keep her from earning some recognition for her performance both on and off the court. Meyer was named Friday as one of 39 young Twin Cities women to receive the St. Paul Area Athena Award.
Taylor Meyer’s senior basketball season was interrupted by an injury, but that didn’t keep her from earning some recognition for her performance both on and off the court.
Meyer was named Friday as one of 39 young Twin Cities women to receive the St. Paul Area Athena Award.
The award is given each year to female athletes to recognize their dedication and excellence in sports. The Athena Awards committee is composed of representatives of St. Paul city and suburban schools, parents of previous award winners and business volunteers.
Athena Award winners will be honored at a banquet April 18 at the Prom Center in Oakdale.
Meyer was a scored 1,301 for the Tiger basketball team, third in school history. She was a two-year captain on the team and was named the Tigers’ Most Valuable Offensive Player for three years. She was also an all-conference goalie for the FHS girls soccer team.
Meyer is also a member of the National Honors Society and a member of the Tiger Leadership Club. She plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she will continue to play basketball and study for a career in veterinary sciences.
