Your weekend: Christian Life will present 'Fairytale Salad'

Live music, spring festivals, workshops and theater productions are among the things to do around Farmington this weekend.

Thursday

Funeral and cremation pre-planning workshop

White Funeral Home in Farmington will hold a free pre-planning workshop about funerals and cremation at 10 a.m and 6 p.m. May 10. The 90-minute program will include information about funeral planning, medical assistance and veterans benefits. White funeral home is located at 901 Third St.

Silver Tea: Charlie Maguire

Enjoy Charlie Maguire’s folk music about Minnesota’s colorful quirks from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 10 at the Dakota County Farmington Library. The performance is a Minnesota Legacy Program. The library is located at 508 Third St.

Friday

Live music

Singer-songwriter Jim Bohn will perform acoustic rock and blues music with singer Elizabeth from 8 to 10 p.m. May 11 at Dunn Bros. Coffee. Dunn Bros. is located at 20700 Chippendale Ave.

Saturday

Trinity Lutheran Church spring fair

Trinity Lutheran Church will hold its annual spring fair May 12 at the church, 600 Walnut St. The church will sell its famous Dakota County Fair hot beef sandwiches from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be a bake sale where people can get some good treats. Tickets will be available at the door.

Omelet breakfast

The Farmington Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 189 will host the monthly omelet breakfast fundraiser Sunday, May 13, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes a build-your-own omelet, cheesy potatoes, fruit and toast. Proceeds will go to SAL Squadron 189 and the ALA Unit 189 for their projects.

Weekend

Farmington Lutheran garage sale

Farmington Lutheran Church will hold its annual garage sale May 9-11. The sale will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. May 9, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 10 and 8 a.m. to noon May 11. There will be a taco-in-a-bag lunch from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Christian Life play

The Christian Life School drama club will present “Fairy Tale Salad,” at 7 p.m. May 11 and 12 and at 2 p.m. May 12. The school is located at 6300 212th St. W. Tickets will be available at the door. For information, call 651-463-4545.

Upcoming events

Teen Advisory Group meeting

The Dakota County Farmington Library’s Teen Advisory Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. May 14 at the library. TAG members help plan library programs and participate in community events and service projects. New members are welcome. The library is located at 508 Third St.

Last Hope garage sale

Last Hope animal rescue will hold a garage sale fundraiser May 14-19 at 18400 Pilot Knob Road, next to Akin Hills Pet Hospital. The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The organization is looking for tax-deductible donations. To donate, call 651-463-8747 by May 13.

Art reception

Photographer Dean Stanton will unveil images titled “My Minnesota” at a meet-the-artist reception from 6 to 8 p.m. May 15 at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Farmington. Dessert and snacks will be served. Wine and beer will be available. Dunn Bros. is located at 20700 Chippendale Ave.

School board prep school

Farmington Community Education will offer a school board prep school for anyone interested in learning more about the role and responsibility of the school board. The class is particularly meant for anyone interested in running for a position on the school board this year. The class will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 15 in the media center at Meadowview Elementary School, 6100 195th St. Registration is not required.

Guitar Hero at the library

Teens can play Guitar Hero on the big screen at the Dakota County Farmington Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 17. The library is located at 508 Third St.

Storytime for all ages

There will be a storytime for all ages from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 18 at the Dakota County Farmington Library. The event includes stories and activities ideal for mixed age groups. The library is located at 508 Third St.

Minnesota Songwriters Association Showcase

Six Minnesota singer/songwriters will perform at a showcase from 7 to 10 p.m. May 18 at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Farmington. Dunn Bros. is located at 20700 Chippendale Ave.

Waggin’ Tales

Kids can practice their reading by reading to trained therapy dogs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 19 at the Dakota County Farmington Library.

Excel 2010 class

The Dakota County Farmington Library will offer a free class on the basics of the Microsoft Excel 2010 spreadsheet program. The class will take place from 10 a.m. to noon May 19. For more information or to reserve a spot call 651-438-0250. The library is located at 508 Third St.
