Christian Life School students will present ‘Fairytale Salad’

Christian Life School will present “Fairytale Salad,” the story of a teenager learning to do what’s right, Friday and Saturday.

Being a teenager isn’t always easy. Doing the right thing isn’t always easy. And figuring out how to be a teenager and do the right thing? Well, that’s not always easy, either. But it is all part of growing up.

That’s a lesson learned in the upcoming production of Fairytale Salad at Christian Life School.

“It covers quite a few topics,” said director Kadimay Garrison. “Things students deal with like stress and selfishness. It focuses on just doing the right thing and learning to be a better person. It’s a fun, light-hearted play.”

The play’s main character, Aurora Manzana, is played by Lexi Giles. Aurora is a selfish, stressed-out, disoriented teenager who isn’t very helpful around her home and doesn’t treat others very well.

While working on a book report, Aurora gets “tossed into the tale,” which means she finds herself in a woods, surrounded by fairytale creatures and characters.

She encounters some unusual characters in Sweet Queen (Rebekah Swanson), Apple Queen (Elizabeth Norman), Red (Abby Haenni) and the Right Brothers (Josiah Larson and Ryan Koehn). In working with them and helping them deal with the issues they are facing, Aurora starts to see that being good and kind and helpful can go a long way.

“Our goal in the production is that no matter what, whether they’re cast or crew or audience, they know God will never leave us, never forsake us, and that He’ll lead us down the right path and everything will work out,” Garrison said.

Garrison is a new teacher at Christian Life School. Taking on the role of director is also new to her, but she’s having a good time with the students and the play.

“I chose it because it covers a lot of different topics that are relevant to the students, plus it’s a really enjoyable play for the family and the students. There are lots of little interesting things that come up. It’s a little bit different,” Garrison said.

Christian Life will present Fairytale Salad at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12. Performances are held at Christian Life Church.
