Your weekend: Kids can read to dogs this weekend

Thursday
Guitar Hero at the library
Teens can play Guitar Hero on the big screen at the Dakota County Farmington Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 17. The library is located at 508 Third St.
Friday
Storytime
There will be a storytime for all ages from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 18 at the Dakota County Farmington Library. The event includes stories and activities ideal for mixed age groups. The library is located at 508 Third St.
Songwriters showcase
Six Minnesota singer/songwriters will perform at a showcase from 7 to 10 p.m. May 18 at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Farmington. Dunn Bros. is located at 20700 Chippendale Ave.
Saturday
Scottish Fair
The Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games will return to the Dakota County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 19. The event will feature several vendors, Celtic music, exhibits and traditional Highland games. For more information visit mnscottishfair.org.
Excel 2010 class
The Dakota County Farmington Library will offer a free class on the basics of the Microsoft Excel 2010 spreadsheet program. The class will take place from 10 a.m. to noon May 19. For more information or to reserve a spot call 651-438-0250. The library is located at 508 Third St.
Steak fry
The Farmington VFW will hold a steak fry May 19 to benefit the women’s and men’s auxiliary.
Sunday
Hymnfest service
Trinity Lutheran Church will kick off the celebration of its 75th anniversary with a hymnfest service at 9 a.m. May 20. An education and fellowship hour will precede an indoor picnic to begin at 11:30 a.m. The church is located at 600 Walnut St. Members, former members and friends of the congregation are invited. Weekend
WWII Living History Weekend
The annual World War II Living History Weekend will highlight the European Theater of World War II this weekend at Dakota City Heritage Village. A tank division of the Historical Reenactment Society will be present and reenactors will play out battles from WWII.

Memorial Day ceremonies
There will be Memorial Day services at 12:30 and 2 p.m. May 27 at Farmington Lutheran and Castle Rock Valley cemeteries. Castle Rock cemetery is located on Alverno Avenue in Farmington. To get there, take Highway 3 south to County Road 80 and take County Road 80 to Alverno.
Memorial Day ceremony
There will be a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. May 28 at Corinthian Cemetery. Lineup for the procession to the cemetery will start at 9 a.m. behind the Farmington American Legion. Military men and women in particular are asked to participate.
