It was a successful start to the season for the Farmington VFW baseball team last week.
Post 7662 opened its schedule with a come-from-behind 8-6 win at Rosemount last Tuesday and went on to score at least seven runs in its first four games as it chalked up four straight victories. The pitching and defense started to get on track, as well, during a 7-3, 8-5 doubleheader sweep of Prior Lake over the weekend.
Farmington trailed 6-5 in the sixth inning of its opener before Nathan Kraml ripped a go-ahead two-run single. Jordan Beschorner, JD Hinks, Zach Speikers and Jordan Decrook added RBI singles and Decrook finished 4 for 5 with three runs scored.
Beschorner pitched four innings of relief to get the win and Austin Martinsen got the final two outs for the save.
The team once again faced a late 6-5 deficit in its second game of the season against St. Croix Lutheran. Speikers started another sixth-inning rally by drawing a walk and Beschorner and Bobby Eckert hit RBI singles to give Post 7662 the lead.
Decrook pitched 4 2/3 innings and picked up the win.
Beschorner, Kraml, Decrook and Nick Schoening had RBI hits in the first two innings as Farmington took an early 5-0 lead in Game 1 against Prior Lake.
Hinks worked well with the lead, holding Prior Lake to three runs over five innings. Beschorner closed the game with two scoreless innings.
Beschorner knocked in four runs and Austin Martinsen drove in three in an 8-5 win in Game 2. The score was 4-3 before Post 7662 pulled away with four more runs in the sixth.
Kyle Johnson went the distance on the mound, allowing seven hits, striking out four and walking none.
Post 7662 hosted New Prague Wednesday and is back home Friday night against Minnetonka.
