Dew Run: Races bring in over 500 runners

A record 546 runners participated in the 33rd-annual Dew Run as part of the Dew Days festivities Saturday morning in Farmington.
The feature four-mile race was won by former Farmington High School distance running standout Ben Kampf, who crossed the finish line on Oak Street nearly two minutes ahead of the next competitor. Kampf clocked in at a time of 20 minutes, 29 seconds on the flat course.
Eric Thies of Mankato, Adam Lippold of Elko, Scott Fikksdal of Hastings and Sam Thomas of Delano rounded out the top five.
The next highest local finisher was 2011 FHS grad Carl Elmer. The former All-State wrestler and cross country runner placed 11th in 24:22. Gelacio Genis (16th), David Dykhuizen (22nd) and Jeff Gutierrez (30th) were the next three local finishers.
Emily Burns of Woodbury won the women’s portion of the race in 25:33. The top local finisher in the women’s race was Tiger cross country runner Maricia Pacheco, who placed fifth out of 191 female runners. She was followed closely by teammate Sarah Cummings.
Three-hundred and seventy-eight runners from seven states participated in the Dew Run four-miler.
Another 168 runners battled the rain to complete the one-mile run.
Lance Elliott and Brian Lundberg, both of Edina, clocked in at 4:41 and 4:59, respectively, to take the top two spots.
George Olein, Genis and Tiger track standout Tyler Lerbakken rounded out the top five.
Pacheco was the top female finisher in a time of 6:14.
22 run Grandma’s
Twenty-two Farmington runners made the trek from Two Harbors to Duluth as part of Grandma’s Marathon Saturday.
Grandma’s Marathon is the 13th-largest marathon in the country.
John Dorin was the top local finisher. He placed 889th overall out of 5,785 runners in a time of 3 hours, 33 minutes, 49 seconds.
Just under a minute later, John Meyers reached the finish line in a time of 3:34:25. Other Farmington runners to break four hours were David Baumbach, Ed Lauer, Sebastian Blahnik, Zach Broughten and Jeremy Holman.
The top Farmington female finisher was Sarah Fladhammer, who ran a time of 4:06:49. Also finishing the race were Adam Keller, Loretta Wollin, Greg Merseth, Terrence Hedin, Jeremy Spring, Jessie Barghultz, Joely Dimian, Bob Jacobowski, Atef Dimian, Justin Schultz, Jon Flannery, Jonny Silk, Brandon Cole and Tom Olmscheid.
