Farmington police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old child who died July 31 while in the care of an in-home daycare provider.
According to police detective sergeant Lee Hollatz, Farmington police were called to the 1000 block of Locust Avenue just after 3 p.m. on a report that a 3-month-old male child was unconscious and not breathing.
Farmington fire/rescue, ALF Ambulance and Farmington police responded. Paramedics pronounced the child dead at the scene.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death, Hollatz said. Because it is an ongoing investigation, police will not release any more information regarding the incident until they have results of the autopsy.
“It definitely takes a toll. It takes a toll on those on the scene, it takes a toll on those who investigate it. It’s tough, but we will do the best we can,” Hollatz said.
Hollatz expects the autopsy to take a couple of weeks.
