Sixty players turned out for last Friday’s Tiger Scramble golf tournament, an annual event that raises money for the Farmington High School girls hockey and lacrosse programs.
Tiger girls hockey coach Jon Holmes was part of the winning foursome as he combined with Terry Holmes, Scott Holmes and Derek Lavan for a score of 15 under par at Fountain Valley Golf Course. Assistant principal Kerry Timmerman and Tim Zahn won the Marshmallow Long Drive Contest and other prizes were handed out after the round at Celts Pub in Farmington.
“The event ran smoothly once again thanks to the great volunteers and sponsors,” Farmington girls lacrosse coach Dan Pickens said. “We played the round with 15 teams in just over four hours, which is very fast for a scramble.”
Participation was down from last year’s tournament, but $4,000 was still raised thanks to an increase in sponsorships from local businesses. Pickens said the girls lacrosse team will use its share to reduce participation costs for players and possibly for practice jerseys. The girls hockey team will use a portion for the college scholarship it awards annually at the Louis Schmitz Holiday Classic.
