Girls tennis: 3-0 Tigers sweep Bloomington schools

The Farmington girls tennis team needed just over a week to surpass last season’s win total.
The Tigers, winners of two dual meets in 15 tries a year ago, made it three in a row to start the year by holding on for a 4-3 non-conference victory over Bloomington Jefferson last Wednesday at Boeckman Middle School.
The Tigers held off the Jaguars by winning three of the meet’s four singles matches. Megan Stivers rolled 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Ryan Jara rallied 4-6, 6-4 (10-7) at No. 2 singles and Callie Olmscheid improved to a perfect 8-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Jess Novotny and Beth Fairchild scored the team’s lone doubles win with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 2 doubles. It was Novotny’s varsity debut.
The Tigers scored their second straight shutout victory last Tuesday with a 7-0 rout of Bloomington Kennedy.
Jara, Olmscheid and Molly Rudorfer all took their singles matches in straight sets. Stivers had to rally to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
The doubles tandem of Clare Padrnos and Lindsey Fairchild remained undefeated with a three-set win and the tandems of Beth Fairchild and Alyson Kelly and Rachel Rees and Tasha Sinha both won in straight sets.
The Tigers took their 3-0 mark into Tuesday’s final conference tune-up at Burnsville. Missota Conference play begins tonight with a match at Northfield.
