Hampton man charged with DWI

A 53-year-old Hampton man was apparently almost home May 27 when a Dakota County Sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop that resulted in charges of driving while intoxicated.

The deputy noticed David Bouma “wandering all over the roadway,” according to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney’s office.

When the deputy turned on his emergency lights to make a traffic stop Bouma turned into a driveway and pulled up to a house. He and his passenger immediately got out of the vehicle.

According to the complaint, Bouma smelled “overwhelmingly” of alcohol and was swaying as he stood. He reported having five or six beers.

Bouma failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test. A breath test given at 11:24 at the Dakota County Jail indicated a blood alcohol content of .18.

Bouma was convicted of a DWI offense in February of 2009. If convicted this time on either of two gross misdemeanor DWI charges he could face up to a year in jail and fines of up to $3,000.
