Even though he’s been pretty busy in his first year as Farmington city administrator, David McKnight has declined his first annual raise.
McKnight received good marks from Farmington City Council members after his first annual review on Sept. 4. Each council member was asked to evaluate his performance in 17 topic areas, giving him the rating of either “needs improvement” or “meets expectations.”
According to a report on McKnight’s evaluation, the topics he was evaluated on included decision making, quality of work, ethics and professionalism, conflict resolution, initiative, leadership and budget, plus several others. Council members were asked to provide their own thoughts on the review summary and cite issues they had with McKnight’s performance or points of commendation.
“The council evaluations indicated that overall, Mr. McKnight was meeting expectations of the council particularly in recognition of the significant amount of work assigned by the Council to Mr. McKnight during the first year with the city,” the report reads.
Council members indicated they would like McKnight to continue working on communication between himself and the council, as well as with city staff. They also identified a desire to see McKnight take a stronger supervisory role in personnel issues, and, finally, to have McKnight continue to work on council goals.
McKnight chose not to ask for a raise due to the state of the city’s budget. His salary is set at $113,000, and will be up for consideration again following his 2013 review.
