Girls swimming and diving: Farmington improves to 3-1

The Farmington girls swimming and diving team built a big lead early and swam the final three events as exhibitions as it improved to 3-1 in the Missota Conference with a 90-87 dual win over Chaska last Thursday at Dodge Middle School.

“We had a decent meet last (Thursday),” Farmington coach Jen Marshall said. “We’re starting to enter what we have coined as the ‘Dog Days’ of the season. The excitement of the beginning has worn off and it’s too early to get pumped for championship season.

“We’re still seeing time drops though and that is impressive. More importantly, the girls aren’t adding several seconds to their swims, which has happened in past seasons.”

Chaska took its only lead after the opening event when its 200 medley relay team edged Farmington’s foursome of Robin Ellis, Kaitlyn O’Reilly, Chloe Holton and Ellie Sundet by two-hundredths of a second. The home team took the lead for good an event later thanks to a 1-2 finish by Kirsten Kracke and Cora Ruzicka in the 200 freestyle relay.

Kracke went on to win the 100 freestyle and swim legs of the first-place 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. She joined Ellis, Ruzicka and Chelsea Gehrke in the 200 free relay and Ruzicka, Gehrke and O’Reilly in the 400 free relay.

O’Reilly also won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Ruzicka added a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle and Gehrke won the 100 butterfly.

Runner-up finishes were provided by Gehrke in the 200 individual medley, Seitzinger in the 100 backstroke, Kaylee Dahlberg in the 100 breaststroke and Nikki Cayard in the 1-meter dive.

The Tigers competed Tuesday at Hastings and take on Chanhassen at a Missota Conference meet tonight in Chaska.
