Farmington’s girls tennis season came to a close with four first-round losses in the Section 1AA individual tournament last Thursday at the Fort Snelling Tennis Club.
In singles play junior Megan Stivers and eighth-grader Ryan Jara each fell in straight sets. Stivers entered as a No. 6 seed and lost 0-6, 2-6. Jara lost 1-6, 0-6.
“The second set was better (for Stivers), but Lakeville North’s player was too steady,” Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. “(Jara) played tough, but didn’t have the consistency and firepower to punish her opponent. But that will come.”
The doubles team of freshmen Claire Padrnos and Lindsey Fairchild just missed advancing to the second round. They led 4-2 in the second set and had a break point to go up 5-2, but eventually lost 7-5, 4-6, 3-6.
The tandem of Jess Novotny and Beth Fairchild fell 0-6, 0-6 in the Tigers’ other doubles match.
“We had a good season,” Olwell said, “ and we’ll be looking for even better next year.”
