Student voices: Not enough to do in this town
Do you find yourself bored on the weekends with nothing new or exciting to do? Do you and your friends always end up on the couch watching TV because there’s nothing else to do?
Do you find yourself bored on the weekends with nothing new or exciting to do?
Do you and your friends always end up on the couch watching TV because there’s nothing else to do?
Does your life only consist of school, work, and a sport?
I answered yes to all of those questions. Farmington has absolutely nothing to do in it. There’s a McDonalds… a Dairy Queen … a couple pizza places … but other than food it seems like we have nothing fun to do around here.
There’s a bowling place, but a person can only go bowling so many times before getting bored of it. If we drive a ways and go to Apple Valley or Lakeville there’s a little more of a selection, but still there’s not much. I think us kids should make a petition or something to get some fun things around here.
I was brainstorming and came up with a few ideas of things that we could get, that I know my friends and I would go to:
Sky Zone
Laser tag arena
Bouncy house
Mini golf
Now I realize that there are these things within an hour’s drive from Farmington but not everyone can take a full day to drive up to one of these things. Sometimes people just need a place close to home to go to, and Farmington offers us nothing.
I know complaining about it won’t get us anywhere but I think instead of the schools changing our lunches into “healthier,” smaller portions they should spend that money on building the sportsplex we were supposed to get along with the new high school. With that clubs could host more fun activities like Games for Change, and the Amazing Race which gets us off our feet being active, instead of watching TV on our weekends.
That’s just my opinion, but I’m sure more people would agree with me. Those gross new lunches aren’t really doing anything for the school except making the students unhappy; a sportsplex would make us happier.
All of this is probably just a pipe dream, but a girl can dream, right? I mean, there are a few things to do close to Farmington, but there’s not really a big selection. I might just be complaining but I’m just sick of not being able to do anything fun; and if there is something fun to do it’s usually something you can only do once. This includes things like carve pumpkins, go to an apple orchard, make cookies, go do a haunted house and walk a corn maze; all fun, but you can’t really do them twice, you know?
