Picking up your mail can get you in some big trouble when the package that’s waiting for you is filled with marijuana.

Bradley James Nelson, 38, of St. Louis Park, learned that last April when he came to Farmington to collect a package police say contained approximately 15 pounds of marijuana in one-pound bags when it arrived. According to a complaint filed last week in the Dakota County Attorney’s office, officers with the Dakota County Drug Task Force received the package April 4 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Task force officers put four of the bags back into the shipping crate and left it at the shipping agency in Farmington until Nelson came to pick it up. Nelson brought the package home.

According to the complaint, Nelson admitted that he knew the package contained marijuana.

If convicted on a charge of felony drug possession Nelson could face up to five years in jail and fines of up to $10,000.
