The Farmington girls hockey team started to get into a goal-scoring groove in the third period of last Tuesday’s game against Hastings, and it carried over into Thursday’s contest against Rochester Mayo.
The Tigers scored three goals in the final seven minutes of their season-opening loss 5-3 loss at Schmitz-Maki Arena and followed that up with a 7-0 rout of the Spartans.
Farmington had a 31-17 advantage in shots on goal against Mayo and sophomore goaltender Maddie Bowe stopped all 17 for her first career shutout.
Freshman Madeline Oines scored twice in the first period and Grace Gavin and Megan Stivers each knocked in goals to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead after a period.
Grace Vincent chipped in two goals in the second period and Shaye Jenrich capped the scoring with a third-period goal.
Rachael Peroutky assisted in three of Farmington’s goals and Haley Doll and Brooke Raske each had two assists. Oines, Haleigh Zwart and Michaela Tonsager each provided one assist.
Zwart, Oines and Bria Donnelly each accounted for one goal in the season-opening loss to Hastings. Rachel Welzin and Doll tallied one assist apiece.
Bowe stopped 15 Hastings shots in her first career start.
The Tigers (1-1) traveled to Hopkins Tuesday and are back on the road Saturday for a non-conference game against Eastview in Apple Valley.
