Farmington’s Dazzle Day holiday party is Saturday
The holidays are a time for people to come together, enjoy one another’s company, and make memories. That’s not lost on the Farmington Business Association. In fact, the FBA is sponsoring its annual Dazzle Day event this weekend to do just that – bring folks together and make some memories. The holidays are a time for people to come together, enjoy one another’s company, and make memories. That’s not lost on the Farmington Business Association.
In fact, the FBA is sponsoring its annual Dazzle Day event this weekend to do just that – bring folks together and make some memories. And they can do it at businesses all around Farmington on Saturday.
It’s a time for Farmington residents to get out and check out the businesses around the community, too, Farmington city planner Lee Smick said. Smick is the chairperson for this year’s Dazzle Day event. She said there is a little bit of everything for everyone coming up this Saturday.
“Events like Dazzle Day develop community relationships,” she said. “It creates a sense of community, plus it gives people some old-fashioned Christmas fun, with a horse and buggy ride, a bonfire, a Christmas tree lighting and so on.”
Businesses from all parts of community, not just downtown, are offering specials during Dazzle Day. Several of them are offering free family events, like Dunn Bros., where Mrs. Claus will do a storytime from 9 to 11 a.m.
From 9 a.m. to noon, children can shop for presents at the Secret Holiday Shop at Rambling River Center. Visitors can make decorations for the community holiday tree at the Dakota County Library in Farmington from 10:30 a.m. to noon. That event is sponsored by the Dakota Valley Arts Council.
From 1 to 3 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a stop at the VFW, to check on the naughty-or-nice status of area kids. Over at the library, families will be able to make gingerbread houses from 2 to 5 p.m., and enter a Gingerbread House Contest and Display. The event is co-sponsored by Farmington Community Education.
And for those who really want an old-time experience, horse and carriage rides are scheduled around downtown from 4 to 7 p.m.
New this year is an Ugly Sweater Contest, where participating businesses will hang their ugly sweaters out for the public’s viewing. Folks out and about can decide which sweater they think is the ugliest, and vote by making a monetary or toy donation to Farmington’s Toys for Town program. Voting will take place throughout the day, Smick said, but be wrapped up in time for the tree lighting ceremony at 5:15 p.m. Farmington police officers will wear the five ugliest sweaters to the ceremony.
The tree lighting ceremony will be held in front of the Depot Way Arts Park trees near the intersection of Oak and Second streets. Mayor Todd Larson will have the honor of illuminating the Farmington tree. Holiday music, carols, and a bonfire are planned following the tree lighting.
“It’s a good time for all. You’ll experience a traditional, old-town kind of Christmas,” Smick said.
