Superintendent Haugen gets a good review from ISD 192 board

A summary of Haugen’s performance appraisal shared at a Monday night school board meeting gave him credit for making progress toward all of the goals set for him this year. Those goals included working toward customizing education for students, improving communication with the community, uniting the district’s principals and other employees and pursuing partnerships, particularly with the city of Farmington.

In his first year in the district Haugen led the process to establish a new strategic plan and encouraged teachers to try new methods such as flipped classrooms, where students watch video lessons at home and do what would typically be homework during class time, when a teacher is there to offer assistance. The district is also in the middle of a program that will eventually put an iPad in the hands of every student, something Haugen has said is critical to the idea of customizing education.

The iPad initiative also plays into the district’s push for partnerships. Farmington schools have worked with the Spring Lake Park School District on the effort. Employees from the two districts talked frequently during the planning process about how the implementation could best be accomplished.

No school board member spoke about Haugen’s performance Monday but the summary shared by board chair Tera Lee said Haugen “has demonstrated a high level of energy and performance in his first year as Superintendent of Farmington Area Public Schools.”
