The Farmington gymnastics team kicked off its schedule with a second-place finish in the Winter Warm-up Saturday at the Austin YMCA.
The host Packers looked to be in midseason form as they won the meet with a team score of 142.05. The Tigers headed up the rest of the nine-team field with a score of 126.5, four points better than third-place Stewartville. Richfield, Rochester Mayo, Century and John Marshall also competed.
“As a team I was very proud of our girls. We performed everything we’ve been practicing,” Farmington coach Lynn Bauman said. “They may have fallen a few times, but they did it. It is always hard to get out for the first time.”
Returning all-conference performer Kiana Lord had Farmington’s highest individual finish and led the team in the all-around. She placed second in the bars with an 8.5 and fourth in the floor exercise with an 8.95 en route to a third-place all-around score of 33.05.
Maddie Timerson provided the Tigers’ highest score with her first-ever 9.0 in the vault, which was good enough for third place.
“We are very excited for Maddie getting her first 9.0,” Bauman said.
The Tigers open their Missota Conference schedule on the road Tuesday at Red Wing. Road meets at Northfield, Chanhassen, Rosemount and Faribault follow before the Tigers begin a stretch of six straight home meets Jan. 8 against Red Wing.
