Student column: Would you like horse meat with your ice cream?

Even though it’s the beginning of December and the weather is just going to be getting colder and colder, I still like to go out and grab the occasional worldwide phenomenon ice cream treat. Even on days when it feels like my fingers and nose are going to freeze off because of how cold it is outside, I find myself craving this creamy delight.
One of my personal favorite places to go for ice cream is Dairy Queen. Every time I go there, I get a cookie dough blizzard. Also, one of my newest obsessions is Cherry Berry. My mom makes fun of me whenever I go there because my favorite flavor to get is peanut butter, which she thinks is really weird.
If she thinks peanut butter is a weird ice cream flavor, she should see the flavors they have at an ice cream parlor in Lares, Puerto Rico. They have nearly 1,000 flavors, some of them very strange. For example, they offer a spaghetti and cheese ice cream to their customers. The ice cream tastes like cheese and has spaghetti sprinkled over the top of it.
I would never have imagined that those two pieces of food would ever taste good together. The next one that I found interesting was sardines and brandy ice cream. I hardly like sardines by themselves, and I don’t think mixing them with delicious ice cream is going to change my mind about them.
Horseflesh ice cream is one that I would definitely stay away from. This ice cream actually has pieces of raw horseflesh in it. I don’t think I would even be able to look at that one. Along with the animal theme, squid-ink is another popular choice on the menu. I don’t know what squid tastes like, but I’m not sure I would like it as a flavor of ice cream.
The flavor of candied bacon doesn’t sound as bad as the other ones, since I like candy, and I like bacon. I don’t know if I like them combined, but I guess you never know until you give it a shot.
I’ve heard a lot about caviar, but I have never actually tried it before. Maybe because it sounds too fancy or maybe because I don’t think I’ll like the taste. Anyhow, sampling the caviar ice cream at the parlor would be a great way for me to see, in a way, what it tastes like.
I’m not a medical expert, but I do know for sure that a spleen is an organ in your body. Knowing that, I cringed when I heard the ice cream flavor of spleen and artichoke. If I hadn’t known that a spleen was a part of the human body, that ice cream flavor wouldn’t have sounded so bad.
After hearing about all of these ice cream flavors, I think I have a legitimate shot at convincing my mom that peanut butter ice cream is the way to go.
