Gymnastics: Farmington’s Lord wins three at Red Wing

Kiana Lord won three events and the all-around competition in leading the Farmington gymnastics team past Red Wing 126.04-122.075 in its first Missota Conference dual meet of the season last Tuesday at the Red Wing Gymnastics Center.
Lord’s highest score came in the floor exercise where she turned in a 9.275. She also topped 9.0 in the vault, which she won with a 9.125, and the balance beam, where she scored an 8.5. She also came in second in the uneven bars.
Lord won the all-around title with a total of 34.825 and teammate Kathryn Beckett placed second with a 31.575.
Beckett was second in the balance beam with an 8.25 and third in the bars with a 7.425. Racquel Beckett added a third-place finish in the vault (8.7) and Taylor Schmaltz was second in the floor exercise with an 8.35.
The Tigers also won the JV portion of the meet, 118.2-101.7.
Gina Mercurio won the vault with a score of 8.1 and tied with Racquel Beckett for first in the floor exercise with an 8.3. Beckett came out on top in the bars with a 7.0.
Tiger gymnasts also tied for first in the balance beam where Kendall Novak and Ashley Ellefson each scored 7.3.
“It was good to get a conference meet under our belt,” Farmington coach Lynn Bauman said. “We do have room for improvement, but it was fun to see all the JV girls compete.”
Bauman is expecting to see injured gymnasts Tahra Eckert, Kylie Wharton and Amanda Davenport return to action over the next month.
The Tigers compete again tomorrow night against Chaska/ Chanhassen at Chanhassen High School.
