Farmington Food Shelf
The Farmington Food Shelf is looking for a volunteer couple or friends to help out at the Farmington Food Shelf one Saturday a month from 8-10 a.m. This Saturday morning volunteer position does not involve client/family contact, just transporting food donations, sorting and storing. For more information, please call the Farmington Food Shelf at 651-463-5019. Please leave your name and contact info if you reach the voice mail recording. A Farmington Food Shelf representative will contact you with more details.
Current food shelf needs include, peanut butter, cereal, pasta sauce, pasta, rice sides, potato sides, fruit snack cups, fruit juice, and laundry soap. Donations can be dropped off at the food shelf at 510 Walnut St., Farmington between the hours of noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Exciting news from the Farmington Dew Days committee: the annual Medallion Hunt is back, due to popular demand, The hunt will run from Tuesday, June 11 through Friday, June 14.
The Bean Bag Tournament is back again for 2013, although it will be in a new location. The event will be held on Elm Street, across from the beer garden in the Rambling River Center’s garage. Registration forms are now available on the Dew Days website, farmingtondewdays.com.
Any young ladies who wish to participate in the Miss Farmington, Junior Miss or Little Miss contests are asked to get their applications in by Monday, Feb. 18. Applications are available on the Farmington Royalty website, www.farmingtonroyalty.com. Farmington Yellow Ribbon Network
A big thank you to Light of the World and Lord of Life Churches for hosting our last two veteran dinners. The next one is Monday, March 4, at Bible Baptist Church, 19700 Akin Rd.
We are planning for our annual Military Mother and Grandmother’s Luncheon on Saturday, May 18, at St. Michael's Church. We are looking for Mothers or Grandmothers of currently serving service members to send a personal invitation to.
We are supporting a few spouses who have husbands deployed with household cleaning on Saturday mornings and could use a few more volunteers. Please contact 651-460-2248 or email@example.com for more information.
The next Yellow Ribbon Network meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 26, 6:30 p.m., at Farmington City Hall. All are welcome.
Dakota County Library in Farmington
The Dakota County Library system kicked off its 12th annual Winter Jackets Adult Reading program Feb. 1. Winter Jackets is open to adults age 17 and up. The program encourages adults to read and then write reviews. The review forms are simple and are quick to fill out. The library keeps the reviews for others to look at when they’re searching for a book. Last year, over 200 Farmington Library customers participated. Each week there will be drawings for a basket of books with some other goodies added. The baskets are provided by the Dakota County Library Foundation.
The Farmington Library has two book groups which meet monthly on the first Monday from 6:15-7:15 p.m. and on the first Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. In March, the evening group selection is Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, and the afternoon group will be discussing Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. Check at the Information Desk for copies of these books.
On Monday, Feb. 25, 6:30-8 p.m., attend "When Can I Retire?" to learn steps to take now to help you retire comfortably later. Find out how to set retirement goals, project income and expenses, allocate assets for investment and develop a personal financial and investment plan. The event is free, but registration is required.
The Farmington VFW’s Feb. 16 steak fry will be sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 118. Meals will be served from 5-8 p.m., and include steak, baked potato, salad, vegetables and dessert for $10.
The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary meetings will be held on March 12.
