Farmington's Royle falls short in Daytona debut

Farmington’s Adam Royle didn’t make it to the finish of his first race at Daytona International Speedway. Royle earned a position in the front row of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series UNOH Battle at the Beach, but was forced to withdraw because of mechanical problems after 53 laps of the 150-lap race.
A graduate of Farmington High School, Royle, 31, qualified for the newest NASCAR event after accumulating enough points through racing at Elko Speedway and Raceway Park in Shakopee last season. He came in ninth in the nation in the Whelen All-American Series, which locked him into a guaranteed slot in the Feb. 18 race.
The Battle at the Beach is a new event. It was contested on a .4 mile short-track on Daytona’s backstretch, and was a 150-lap, 60 mile feature race for the Late Model series. Royle drove a 2013 Ford Fusion.
The Battle at the Beach begins at was broadcast live on the Speed Channel.
