Peter Joseph DeGross, age 76, of Spring Valley, Wis., died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from injuries received in a car accident.

Peter Joseph DeGross, age 76, of Spring Valley, Wis., died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from injuries received in a car accident.

Pete was born Aug. 4, 1931, the son of Joseph John and Rose Florentine (Welter) DeGross at Lakeville. He attended school at Farmington. He served in the U. S. Army from 1952 until 1954.

On Jan. 8, 1955 Pete married Yvonne Demuth at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth, Wis. They resided in Ellsworth until 1968, when they moved to Wilson, Wis., where they lived and ran Pleasant View Inn. In 1978, they sold the Pleasant View Inn and Pete went to work for the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis. He worked there until retiring in 1985 due to health reasons. After retiring, Pete worked part time in many restaurants and as a handyman around the Spring Valley, Wis., area.

He is a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Spring Valley,.

Preceding him in death were his parents and father-in-law Bernard Michael Demuth.

Survivors include his wife Yvonne of Spring Valley; four daughters and three sons: Ruth (Jeff) Esanbock of Spring Valley, Ben (Linda) DeGross of Glenwood City, Wis., Joe (Teresa) DeGross of Spring Valley, Carol (Dewey) Anderson of Spring Valley, Beth (Tom) Gotzman of Knapp, Wis., Pat Coone of Spring Valley, and Bob (Rei) DeGross of Naples, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one brother and eight sisters; all of Minnesota; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was from 10 a.m. until noon on Monday, June 2, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley, and from 2-5 p.m. Monday for a Memorial Gathering at the Sacred Heart C.C.D. Center. The service was at noon with Fr. Varkey Velickakathu and Br. Michael Mandernach officiating. Music was provided by organist Ellen Rominski and the Sacred Heart Choir. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Spring Valley.

Served as pallbearers were Pete’s 14 grandchildren: Chad Esanbock, Casey Hannack, Linsy Esanbock, Nic DeGross, Jesse DeGross, Felicia DeGross, Dustin DeGross, Aaron DeGross, Jason Anderson, Jeremy DeGross, Jevon Gotzman, Kyler Gotzman, Zachary Coone, and Ethan Coone.

Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.

Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley handled arrangements.
