To the editor,

Our neighborhood in Farmington experienced two bike thefts this past week. In one of those thefts, our friend, Trudy, lost her trusty three-wheel bike — her only mode of transportation. It was stolen from the patio of her apartment. When she called to tell us, she was devastated.

We can’t imagine why anyone would steal Trudy’s bike. It can’t be ridden around town — everyone knows it’s hers.

Trudy has served the Farmington community for years. Many of you have relied on her to do some mending or sew patches on your kids’ letter jackets, and she probably charged you only a few dollars. And you may have seen Trudy riding her bike around town — to the grocery store or clinic. It offered her a measure of independence. Without her bike, she has to depend on friends for rides.

Three-wheel bikes are very expensive and it’s unlikely that Trudy can buy a new bike anytime soon. For someone who has given much to her community, this is our chance to give back to her.

If anyone sees a three-wheel bike around, it belongs to Trudy and she needs it back. Please contact the Farmington Police Department. However. We’re not very optimistic that her bike will be recovered so we’ve set up an account at Roundbank to raise funds for a new one for her.

Donations can be made out to The Bike Fund and sent to Bike Fund, Attn: Cindy, Roundbank, P.O. Box 299, Farmington, MN 55024.

Trudy would never ask for any help, so we’re asking on her behalf.
