There were no major surprises on the first day of the Farmington City Council filing period. All three candidates who submitted affidavits of candidacy Tuesday had already announced plans to run.

Current city council member David McKnight and current planning commission member Todd Larson will both seek the mayoral seat currently occupied by Kevan Soderberg.

Soderberg, who has accepted a job teaching in Oklahoma, appears unlikely to defend his position.

Council member David Pritzlaff has filed to defend his position.

There are three seats available this November — the council seats currently held by McKnight and Pritzlaff and Soderberg’s mayor’s job.

The filing period continues through Sept. 9.
