Head coach Jack Olwell wasn't at all displeased at the effort put forth by his Farmington girls tennis team during Tuesday's 7-0 home loss to Hastings.

In fact, he was quite impressed his Tigers were able to play several tight matches against a team he expected would be a tough challenge.

"We played pretty well, particularly at No. 1 and 2 singles and No. 3 and 4 doubles," Olwell said. "They were the better team and we knew that going in, but it did not affect our effort or performance. In fact, in most cases we got tougher as the match wore on."

The No. 3 and 4 doubles matches were the most tightly contested. At No. 3, Brooke Searles and Maggie Rudorfer led late before fading in a 4-6, 4-6 setback, and the No. 4 doubles team of Briann Kashak and Emilee Schearer played what Olwell called a "great match" in falling 4-6, 6-7.

In singles play, Jaco Burke once again played well in a 1-6, 2-6 setback against Hastings' top singles player. Bre Thompson faded after a strong first set in a 3-6, 1-6 loss at No. 2 singles and Kelly Willenbring was consistent in a 3-6, 3-6 defeat at No. 3 singles.

The Tigers continued their non-conference schedule Tuesday night at Bloomington Kennedy and they open their Missota Conference slate at home tonight against Red Wing. The match gets underway at 4:15 p.m.
