And what would you do if you WERE armed, Dee? Open fire? You think that cougar is going to slowly slink towards you and try to eat you? Come on. If that cougar was within 20 feet of you, and it set its mind on tearing you to shreds, there wouldn't be a damn thing you could do about it, gun or no gun.

The DNR doesn't like to admit it they are around. I saw one in the back of our lot 6 years ago. I didn't think until I actually realized what I was looking at and our dog was going crazy. When I call the DNR they told me I must have seen a fox or a large dog. It saw me, I saw it and the thought that ran through my head was OH S---! That is something you don't forget. When I talked with some people who live in the area they told me occationally the cats come along the river in the winter looking for food and they eat the road kill if available. However, I'm with WI T, I want to be armed if I ever see it again!

I've trailed a couple cougars from Stillwater over to Houlton and Somerset on several occasions, usually around 1:30AM...

Its hard to train a Cougar, if it wants you it will take you. before you know, you wake up in a super 8 hotel with $40 bucks on the night stand and the Cougar is gone. Never try to fight off the Cougars, they always win. lol

scott w. this is no different than calling a television station in the cities and reporting a tornado during tornado season.they won't accept it as true unless it comes from the mouth of one of their registered "trained tornado spotters".i know.been there, done that, won't do it again.

I like the idea of cougars around... it makes the wild, "wild" again.

The DNR don't have a clue what has been happening !! during the deer gun hunt there was a cat spotted east of knapp by a hunter and a guy in the same hunting group shot a buck that had claw mark's on the top of deer just in front of the deers hip's and how you say that I know this is true I and my brother seen the deer at the place where the deer was to be cut up . you can see clearly that they are claw mark's and they were starting to scab over so there here and have been here for some time 2 years ago we were hunting on a farmers land near spring valley and the women that live's there told us that see had a big cat take her house cat and was running across the field . so I don't care what the dnr has to say because they are always wrong on most everything. like the deer count !!

Strap on whatever you want. You aren't going to get a chance to shoot a mountain lion that decides to kill you. But they will go SO FAR out of their way to avoid people that it won't matter anyway.
