Eugene L. Barnhart, 98, of Elgin, Ill., passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Apostolic Christian Resthaven Nursing Home, Elgin.
He was born July 20, 1911, in Dewey, Okla., the son of Charles and Anna Spayd Barnhart. He had been a resident of the Elgin area since 1943. He was a dairy farmer for many years and in 1960 he went to work for Prairie Farmer Magazine until retiring after 26 years.
Surviving are his daughter, Barbara (Herbert) Carson, Farmington, Minn.; son, Kenneth (Jerri) Barnhart of Elgin; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther Hills Barnhart, in 1999; one sister, Marie McGuire; and a brother, Joseph Barnhart.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be on Harmony Grove Cemetery, Dennis, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Apostolic Christian Resthaven, Elgin.
