One lit cigarette caused approximately $100,000 in damage when it caused a Castle Rock house fire Friday night. Farmington firefighters were called to a house on the 22400 block of Chippendale Avenue/Highway 3 just after 8 p.m. Friday, on the report of a house fire. When they arrived at the home, firefighters found the front of the house ablaze.

In the course of about a week and a half there have been at least 20 reported cases of items being stolen from cars. The first wave of incidents was reported Aug. 5 and 6. The second was reported Aug. 10, mainly in the downtown area east of Highway 3.

An early-morning police chase hit speeds of up to 100 miles per hour on Feb. 21 on the streets of downtown Farmington. According to a complaint filed this week in the Dakota County Attorney’s office, the chase started with a seemingly routine traffic stop on Eighth Street. The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Jose Luis Ruiz of San Pedro, Calif., caught police attention shortly before 2:30 a.m. thanks to a noisy muffler. Police then watched him drive through two stop signs.
