Column: What’s your bid?
A few weeks ago in this space I wrote about a survey that found Minnesota was one of the country’s hot spots for finding a sugar daddy. Now it seems Twin Cities residents are signing up in droves at whatsyourprice.com, a dating website that promises to remove the complications from matchmaking by allowing users to bid actual cash for a date with people they find attractive.

New owners hope to rehabilitate Farmington restaurant’s reputation
The second night Phil and Tony Marvets owned their new Farmington restaurant there was a fight at the bar. It was a big enough disturbance that Phil had to sit down with police and review security video of the incident. And it was exactly the kind of thing the brothers hope to discourage as they try to transform the business, a former American Legion and, briefly, a sports bar called Tailgaters.

Column: Learning a sweet lesson
You can learn a lot when you work for a newspaper. You learn things that interest you. You learn things that are of value to your readers. You also learn things just because some public relations person somewhere got ahold of your email address. It’s the professional equivalent of a telemarketing call during dinner.

New Gay-Straight Alliance takes a stand at FHS
The whole thing was a little weird at first for Marcello Hunter. His girlfriend, Kelsey Sharpe, has two moms, and he really didn’t know how to process that. Kelsey’s moms, Kim Sharpe and Lisa La Rosa, get that. So does Kelsey. But it’s okay, too, because Hunter is not alone in his experience, and that’s why they’re all members of Farmington High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance.

Column: How many for an extra life?
I’ve been hearing a lot lately about Bitcoins, which are a kind of Internet-based money that’s real in the same way Kate Upton is really my Internet girlfriend. Which is to say, if I try hard enough I might be able to convince a few nerds, but most of the world will just look at me like I’m crazy.

Column: Gadgets cannot replace everything
I heard something on the radio the other day, and I have to say, it disturbs me quite a bit. Apparently, there is now an app that parents can get on their smartphones or iPads or what have you, that will read the popular children’s book, “Goodnight Moon,” to kids. For a mere $4.99, you can purchase the app and let the computer do the talking. Literally.
