Student column: There is no escaping change
Change can either be a good thing, or a bad thing. Life teaches you that. If life is throwing you some hard obstacles, it can be hard to decide what to do. For example, if you know you should study for a test but you also want to hang out with your friends.

Editorial: Innovation zone brings right kind of attention
The Farmington School District’s selection as an innovation zone is exciting. Probably. It’s hard to say too much about the designation at this point, because nobody seems sure exactly what it means.

Student column: Snow or no snow, students unhappy
As you may know, many schools had a snow day two weeks ago on March 5. That is a very rare occasion. There have been days when cars were in ditches, accidents were happening left and right and cars were sliding off roads due to the ice. Even the school buses were 20 minutes late to school due to road conditions and we didn’t even have a snow day.

iPads everywhere in Farmington schools
It’s hard to get away from iPads at Farmington High School. Walk into a classroom and they’re propped up on nearly every desk. Stand in the hallway, and you can watch students walk from class to class with their eyes fixed on the glowing screen.

Editorial: Innovation is important in education
Innovation has been a big word since Jay Haugen took over as superintendent in the Farmington School District. Haugen talked early and often about the need to look at new ways of teaching students and -- maybe more important -- of helping them learn on their own.

Our favorite things: Nathan’s favorite 2012 stories include parades, horses and changing ideas about education
We have written a lot of stories over the past year. At a rough estimate, we filled more than 1,500 pages with news about Farmington. That’s a lot of stories we have worked to prepare, then sent out into the world. And while some of them were relatively small things, others have stuck with us over the months. This is a look back at those stories, our favorites from 2012.
