Longtime business owner of Farmington Steakhouse dies
It didn’t matter who you were to Pete Kontinakis. Once you walked into Farmington Steakhouse, you were his buddy. Though the signs around the Farmington Steakhouse still bear his smiling face, visitors to the steakhouse will never hear his friendly “Hey, buddy” greeting again, as Pete (Panayoitis) Kontinakis passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.

Then they hosted, and won, the program’s first-ever section tournament home game. The Farmington football team got to celebrate a couple of victories Friday night. The first was a 41-28 shootout over Holy Angels that sent the team’s seniors off in winning fashion and capped off a perfect 4-0 mark on the Tiger Stadium turf this season. The second came about 10 minutes after the final whistle when, with the Tigers gathered at midfield, athletic director Jon Summer delivered the news that Shakopee had defeated Chanhassen, 24-14, giving seventh-ranked (Class 5A) Farmington at least a share of its first Missota Conference title since the 2008 season.

Kristine Benjamin crossed “Run a Marathon” off her bucket list Sunday when she and about 11,999 other runners participated in the Twin Cities Marathon. And while she was probably not the only first-time runner in the pack, Benjamin was likely one of the few who has asthma and is a carrier for a rare lung disease commonly known as Alpha 1.

The Farmington girls tennis team wrapped up its turn-around season with a pair of closely-contested conference losses last week. The Tigers fell 4-3 to Holy Angels in their home finale last Tuesday at Boeckman Middle School and lost 5-2 to Shakopee Thursday to finish with a 1-6 record in the Missota.
