Book Report: A new Scandinavian thriller takes the stage
I’m way behind in my coverage of the Scandinavian thriller surge in world publishing, not having even read a Stieg Larsson thriller, so I’ll try to make it up by reviewing a finely wrought thriller by first-time Swedish author Alexander Soderberg. It’s “The Andalucian Friend,” (Crown, $26), translated by Neil Smith.

Farmington teen’s wish comes true, but a setback comes with it
It wasn’t the news Dian Bloom wanted to hear. The scan she had hoped would tell her she was cancer free came back with what her doctors called “an area of concern.” But the spunky 18-year-old Farmington High School senior isn’t letting the news get her down. Not right now, at least. This week, she’s enjoying a week in Bora Bora with her grandmother and her closest friends.

Column: Do bikini models like pizza rolls?
It’s possible that by the time you read this the University of Minnesota men’s basketball team will have a new coach. It’s also possible bikini model Kate Upton will show up on my doorstep tomorrow, but I’m not going to set out a tray of appetizers just yet.

No official score was kept, but the live-game action gave both coaches an opportunity to evaluate their teams and find things they need to work on as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Column: Adjusting to change
It seems that lately, my eyesight just isn’t what it used to be. I’ve had glasses since I was 5 years old. Before that, I can remember wanting to have glasses, because my mom and dad both had them, and so did all of my grandparents. It seemed, to a 4-year-old Lil’ Chelle, like glasses were pretty cool.
