Column: Off the record memories from 2012
I’ve spent the past couple of days sifting through all of the stories and columns I’ve written over the past year. I have to say, it’s kind of fun. Doing the research helps me to remember so many things I’d forgotten about. In a way, my computer seems to be not only a history book of Farmington, but of my life.

Depending on your point of view, last weekend’s record snowfall inspired one of a handful of reactions. If you love winter, you probably thought the daylong blizzard was a wonderful thing, a chance after last year’s mostly snowless year to break out your skis and snowmobiles and sleds.

Student column: Would you like horse meat with your ice cream?
Even though it’s the beginning of December and the weather is just going to be getting colder and colder, I still like to go out and grab the occasional worldwide phenomenon ice cream treat. Even on days when it feels like my fingers and nose are going to freeze off because of how cold it is outside, I find myself craving this creamy delight.

‘Desperate’ time for Toys for Town drive
Farmington police chief Brian Lindquist has a bone to pick with Mother Nature. Sure, Mother Nature has given us some unseasonably warm temperatures, and sure, those warm temperatures are shortening Minnesota’s long winter season. But he believes those same warm temperatures are having a huge effect on Farmington’s Toys for Town toy collection.

Student column: Snow shortage: good or bad?
Does anyone else think it’s weird that we’re almost halfway through November and – as of the time I wrote this — it hasn’t snowed yet? I’m surely not complaining that the weather has been nice. I’m not a huge fan of the cold. But that thought just popped into my head the other day and I couldn’t seem to shake it.
