As fire burned, tempers flared
A Hampton father and son, Thomas Herbert Eilen, 56, and Jonathan Peter Eilen, 24, have each been charged with obstructing legal process in connection with their actions at a fire May 23 on their Hampton property. Thomas Eilen has also been charged with assault in the fourth degree after he allegedly struck a Dakota County deputy.

A historic first year for Hampton mayor
Hampton made international news in November of 2008 when the city elected Paye Flomo as its new mayor.
Flomo is the first native Liberian to be elected to a government office in the U.S., and some have suggested he’s the first African-born American to be elected, he said.

As weather warms, watch for bikes
The air is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and getting from place to place by bicycle is starting to look like an appealing option.
For drivers and bikers alike, that means once again getting used to sharing the road. It’s a process Farmington police sergeant Jim Constantineau compares to remembering how a car handles on slick roads after the first heavy snowfall of winter.

Kohlbeck recognized for efforts on behalf of Farmington seniors
A little recognition now and then is always nice. A statewide recognition, though — well that’s pretty big. At that point, it’s not just nice. It’s really nice.
And that’s why Rambling River Center coordinator Missie Kohlbeck is very flattered by the recognition she received last week. Kohlbeck was given the Outstanding Senior Services Award from the Minnesota Association of Senior Services.

Gudmundson named interim sheriff in Steele County
Former Dakota County Sheriff Don Gudmundson has been selected sheriff
again, this time in Steele County.
At a special Steele County Board of Commissioners meeting Friday
afternoon, the commissioners authorized county coordinator Dave
Severson to begin contract negotiations with Gudmunson, who retired as
Dakota County Sheriff at the end of February.

Rochester man leads deputies on high speed chase
When he was arrested March 27 Sean O’Gorman had good things to say about the driving skills of his arresting officer.
According to a complaint filed last week in the Dakota County Attorney’s office Dakota County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the 26-year-old Rochester man after a nine-mile chase that reached speeds greater than 100 miles per hour.
