Seniors: From country girl to city kid 
Jeannette Schauer grew up in the country, but the search for work turned her into a city girl pretty quickly.
Schauer was born to a farm family in Enderlin, North Dakota. The third of six children, she was a self-described daddy’s girl who loved driving the horses and the tractors as the family worked the fields. She attended a country school where she had just four other students in her class.

Editorial: Seniors accomplished a lot 
The members of Farmington’s Rambling River Center have done something pretty remarkable over the past three years. Since 2009, the group has raised close to $80,000 as part of an agreement they made when the center moved to an expanded space in the former Farmington city hall.

Session will focus on making tough end-of-life decisions 
Nobody wants to make the tough decisions that come when a loved one dies. But sooner or later, almost everyone will have to.
What can make it harder are all the questions that come with death. What do we do now? Cremation or funeral or a combination of both? How much will this cost? What about any outstanding hospital or nursing home bills – who takes care of those?

Logan Ausen, a member of Boy Scout Troop 119 in Farmington, completed his Eagle Project on Aug. 3 for Trinity Care Center in Farmington. Ausen, along with his family, friends and other Scouts, built a garden arbor trellis bench.

Ask him about his life after high school and he’ll think for a while, then talk about working in dry cleaning for a couple of years. But details are hard to come by.

A new game for seniors 
Missie Kohlbeck hopes Farmington’s seniors will be sweet on the latest offering from the city’s Rambling River Center.
Pickleball, a game that combines elements of tennis, ping pong and badminton, will become a twice-weekly fixture on the center’s activity schedule starting May 17.
