Sheriff investigating rural copper thefts
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of copper wire thefts taken primarily from irrigation systems in southern Dakota County. One additional theft involved a large amount of copper wire from a gravel pit.September 01, 2010

Animals need adjusting, too 
Hal Brown’s first introduction to animal chiropractic was while he was still studying chiropractic therapy for humans. In one class, he watched a video that showed a cowboy in South Dakota adjusting horses.
At the time, Brown dismissed the concept as impossible - chiropractic for people was difficult enough, he said. Not to mention, practicing on animals was illegal in the U.S.

Energy meeting focuses on turbine 
University of Minnesota officials hoped to have a wide-ranging discussion July 29 on the future of alternative energy on the school’s UMore Park property. But the residents who showed up for the meeting seemed to have a more specific focus.

Unusual First District race among primary battles
Farmington has no local primary races, but there is still reason for voters to cast their ballots Aug. 10. Voting is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is a race for one of the 1st District judges’ position, currently held by Timothy Blakely. Stephen Baker and Larry Clark are challenging him. County stands to lose more state aid this year 
Dakota County has lost another $2.8 million in state revenue.
When the Minnesota Legislature completed its most recent session in May, it had fixed the state’s current shortfall of close to $1 billion and expected $4.3 billion shortfall for the 2010-2011 biennium.

Inmate found dead at Dakota County Jail 
A 42-year-old South St. Paul man charged with criminal sexual conduct was found dead Friday at the Dakota County Jail, apparently having hanged himself.

The 2010 Community Indicators Report shows that while the county growth continues to be slow, Dakota County remains the state’s third-most populated county. There are more than 390,000 people living in Dakota County.

Lind recommended as interim head of dispatch center 
The Dakota Communications Center executive committee has recommended Diane Lind be named the interim executive director for the center. The board of directors will vote June 17 on whether to approve the recommendation.

A few hang ups have delayed the decision on a new executive director for the Dakota Communications Center, current director Kent Therkelsen said. So the board of directors will have to pick an interim director during their June 17 meeting.
