State cuts will affect county budget
It is looking bad, and it is probably going to get worse. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s proposal to balance the state’s budget would have significant impact on Dakota County, finance director Matt Smith told the Dakota County Board of Commissioners Tuesday. Special operations team is there when you need them
It’s not every day local fire and rescue personnel come across a man buried in corn or a hazardous Mercury spill, but when they do, they know there’s help to be had in the Dakota County Special Operations Team.
The DCSOT played a big role in the Feb. 4 rescue of Feely Elevator manager Mark Malecha. They assisted at the 35W bridge collapse in 2007, and, in 2004, cleaned up a mercury spill in Rosemount.

At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners, on a unanimous vote, appointed Dakota County Chief Deputy Dave Bellows sheriff, replacing Don Gudmundson, whose resignation is effective Sunday.

Senator set to step down
After more than two decades, Pat Pariseau is making this session her last.
Pariseau, the Farmington resident who has represented the area in the Minnesota Senate since 1989, announced Monday she will retire when her current term ends this year. The decision wraps up — or at least refocuses — a political career that reaches back into the 1970s.

Prosecution down for juveniles, up for adults
The city of Farmington got mixed results in the adult and juvenile crime statistics released this month by the Dakota County Attorney’s office.
The number of adults charged with felony-level offenses increased by 58 percent — from 26 prosecutions in 2008 to 41 last year — but the number of juveniles prosecuted fell from 124 to 93.

Pariseau will retire after 21 years in state Senate; 3 have filed to replace her
State Senator Pat Pariseau (R - Farmington) will step down as the Senator from the 36th district after serving seven terms in the Minnesota Senate.
“I have been carefully considering my retirement for quite a while now and want to step aside to let a new voice represent my beloved Senate district in St. Paul,” said Senator Pariseau.
