An observant parent who had a bad feeling about another patron at the Robert Trail Library last month led Rosemount police to a 38-year-old man with a camera filled with surreptitiously taken photos of young girls.

Bus catches fire on Hwy. 3
Things could have been much worse, but it still wasn’t a great way to start off a Monday morning.
Farmington firefighters were called to a vehicle fire on Highway 3 around 7:15 a.m. Monday. Fire chief Tim Pietsch said the fire was so hot, he could see an orange glow from the south as he left his driveway to respond.

Jordan Dibb checks in from the road
According to the official Facebook page of I Walk for Love, the group Jordan Dibb formed for his fundraising walk from Minneapolis to Miami, as of Friday night the Farmington High School graduate had taken 530,900 steps and walked 287 miles in 13 days. He's still got a long way to go and a lot of money to raise to hit his goal of $100,000 for relief efforts in Haiti. But he took some time on the second of his weekly rest days to check in and let us know how things are going.

Hastings Middle School student charged after flashing gun at school
Hastings Middle School was locked down Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. to a little after noon following an incident involving a student with a handgun.
Police were called to the school on a report of a male student who had displayed a handgun in the doorway of a classroom on the second floor of the school.

County will work toward making buildings more energy efficient
All Dakota County-owned buildings will receive energy assessments soon.
At its regular meeting this week, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners authorized the execution of a contract with Sebasta Blomberg and Associates for $99,820 to complete the audits of the 24 buildings.

State cuts will affect county budget
It is looking bad, and it is probably going to get worse.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s proposal to balance the state’s budget would have significant impact on Dakota County, finance director Matt Smith told the Dakota County Board of Commissioners Tuesday. The state must close an expected budget shortfall of $1.2 billion by the end of June.
