Letter: Church will miss food shelf
Greetings to the community of Farmington. My name is Kevin Fox and I have been truly blest to serve in this community as the pastor of Faith United Methodist Church.March 11, 2010
Letter: State must improve business climate
Anyone who has picked up a newspaper in the last month knows about the Minnesota budget situation. It’s ugly. We face a $1.2 billion deficit in 2010, and that number is expected to increase to $5.4 billion in the next budget. We need to make dramatic structural changes to bring our spending back down to sustainable levels and balance the budget.

Letter: No to ‘Sportsplex Jr.’
Last week I attended the joint Farmington City Council and school board meeting as they received the task force report on ice arena options for our community. Their first recommendation was to construct two new ice sheets, which would obviously close the Schmitz-Maki Arena.

Residents were generous
On behalf of Farmington Lutheran Church’s confirmation group, I would like to send out a big thank you to the Farmington community.

Neighborhood stepped up
For the sixth year in a row, the neighbors in the Nelson Hills Farm area gave more than they got on All Hallow’s Eve.

Many helped with brunch
As director of bands at Farmington High School it is frequently my pleasure to observe the spirit of cooperation so often exhibited in our community.

Why marginalize letters?
Why do you marginalize letters to the editor, wedging them into a narrow grey column? It makes them very hard to read.

Getting flag display right is important
In a previous letter about the display of the flag at Farmington High School, I made the comments, “The buck stops here” and “It’s the janitor’s fault” that were directed at FHS principal Ben Kusch.

Let legislators know how you feel about Twins deal
A while back our state legislature voted to use public funding for the Twins’ new stadium at a price of $500,000,000. The funding took place in the form of an increased sales tax for a period of 30 years, which was not passed with a public referendum.

Take care this cold and flu season
With the school year under way and Minnesota temperatures beginning to fall, the flu season is officially upon us. Just last month, one-third of a Lakeville elementary school’s student body was absent because of flu-related symptoms.

We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to those that have comforted our family with the recent passing of our mother, Astrid J. Henry.

Senior center is full of life
Officially, I became a senior citizen this year. Amazing to me as I never “wanted” to be this old. Now that I am, I have discovered, it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Thoughts on the flag issue
Last week there was an article on the US flag being flown wrong at our new high school. I am sure this issue would have generated quite a bit of commentary online, yet the article was not published in the online edition. Maybe you can put it in there.

Why raise flag concerns?
Was it important?
Was it only because I am an Army veteran?

Be aware what you’re teaching on the field
This past weekend I got to be an impartial observer at the second and third grade Farmington in-house baseball tournament. As the mother of one of the teenage umpires, I went to the games, relaxed and watched, completely unaware of any score.
