Dakota County ‘vote no’ campaign kicks off 
A grassroots effort to defeat an amendment outlawing same-sex marriage in Minnesota kicked off Sunday afternoon in Dakota County.
Nearly 200 people from around the county came together to launch the Dakota County Votes No effort, the first of several such efforts that will be organized statewide with the help of Minnesotans United for All Families.

Dakota County Jail boarding partnership will continue 
Some of Dakota County’s inmates, male and female, will be housed in the Ramsey County workhouse.
As part of a contract amendment for boarding inmates agreed to on April 10, the cost will be $55 per inmate per day in 2012 and 2013, and $57 per inmate per day in 2014.

Close races in township elections 
In one election, a challenger topped an incumbent by just two votes. In another, there were more write-in votes than there were votes for the lone candidate. In other words, it was an interesting night at the township polls.

Foreclosures were down last year in Dakota County 
The number of completed foreclosure sales in Dakota also showed a decrease of about 7 percent for the same time period. According to a report released late last month by the Minnesota Homeownership Center, there were 21,298 foreclosures in Minnesota in 2011, a decrease of 17 percent from the 25,673 foreclosure sales in 2010. This is the lowest number of sales since 2007.

Extra Dakota County DWI enforcement campaigns in January resulted in 13 DWI arrests countywide. That number does not include the arrests made by officers that were working regular shifts for their cities.
