Tennis: Tigers drop all four matches

All four of Farmington’s entrants were knocked out in the first round of the Section 1AA individual tennis tournament last week. Jake Bauer put up a fight in his singles match, falling 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 in a three-hour affair.

Tennis: Owatonna moves past Tigers, 7-0

Third-seeded Owatonna swept No. 6 Farmington 7-0 in hot and windy conditions last Tuesday in the opening round of the Section 1AA team tournament. “The heat and wind were a terror, but we were able to keep them from frustrating us severely,” Farmington coach Jack Olwell said.

Tennis: Tigers come close but lose two matches

Megan Stivers accounted for Farmington’s lone win in last Thursday’s 6-1 loss at Simley. Stivers, a sophomore, used a strong finish to hold on for a 7-5, 4-6 (7-5) decision at No. 4 singles. The only other match to go to a third set was No. 3 singles, where junior Melanie Kappes lost 3-6, 6-2 (7-1).
