Monday night fire destroys Farmington home
A late night fire Monday destroyed a Farmington house and left the owner and his new roommate without a place to live.
Farmington fire marshal John Powers is still investigating the cause of the blaze, which started outside the home at 18524 Dunbury Knoll just before 11:30 p.m. Monday. The home’s owner, Jaysen T. Smith, told Powers he was in his bedroom when he heard something outside.

Diesel fuel leaks into the Vermillion River
Farmington firefighters are working to clear diesel fuel out of the Vermillion River after receiving a report of a spill around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Farmington fire marshal John Powers was not sure how long the diesel had been seeping into the river, but firefighters tracing the fuel’s path reported it had travelled past Biscayne Avenue in Empire Township.

Dry winter brings burning restrictions
Weird as it may be, the city of Farmington isn’t issuing any permits for open burning these days.
It’s a little unusual, Farmington fire marshal John Powers said, but a lack of snow is causing drought conditions in most of the state. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is urging caution.

Early-morning barn fire ruled arson
An early morning fire on the University of Minnesota’s UMore Park property has been ruled an arson by the Dakota County Sheriff's department.
Called in just after 2 a.m. Thursday, the blaze leveled a pole barn off of Lone Rock Trail on the University-owned property.

Warm winter means ice is still unsafe, FFD says
When Farmington firefighters went into the icy water at the Prairie Waterway Greenway near Prairieview Park Sunday, they were wearing rescue suits and had ample equipment there for their cold-water rescue practice.
They were ready to go into the icy water. Most people who fall into the cold winter waters aren’t as lucky.
