Strong storm does damage around Farmington
A storm one resident described as “a wall of wind” left many residents with toppled trees, damaged homes and crushed cars Tuesday morning.
The storm hit Farmington around 4 a.m. Tuesday with straight-line winds that snapped large branches off of some trees and tore others up by the roots.

Warmer weather and melting snow have pushed the Vermillion River over its banks in recent days, leaving some residents along the river with flooded yards and making the playground equipment at Rambling River Park unavailable to kids. The flooding, a perennial problem in the park, makes the playground equipment’s boat theme seem particularly appropriate.

Snowfall puts a strain on city staff
Any hopes that last week’s warm temperatures might bring an early thaw were more or less crushed by Mother Nature when she dumped somewhere around 15 inches of snow to Farmington Sunday and Monday.
Even early into Tuesday afternoon, piles of snow lined the downtown streets while city plow crews worked their third day in a row, trying to get rid of all of the extra snow.
