Trinity nursing home gets perfect marks 
At Trinity Care Center, being perfect feels pretty good.
The Farmington nursing home learned recently that it has received a zero-deficiency rating from the Minnesota Department of Health for the second consecutive year. With thousands of areas where a facility could potentially trip up, that’s not easy to do.

A lifetime of hard work
Myrtle Kelly knows what it’s like to work hard. She grew up on a farm near Elko with three brothers and a sister. There were cows and pigs and chickens to care for, and everybody had a job to do.
There were 30 to 35 cows that needed milking, and there were no milking machines to help do the work.

Verna Fischer: ‘I was a Jack of all monkeybusiness’
Verna Josephine Fischer — Jo to her friends — has developed a reputation around Trinity Care Center for making people laugh. It’s a reputation that seems to have followed her through much of her life. When she was young, she said, some people didn’t think she would amount to much because she didn’t take things seriously. She has even done a little stand-up comedy in her life.

For seniors, a fundraising frenzy
Part of the banquet room at Farmington’s Rambling River Center was lined with tables on Monday morning, each loaded with a growing collection of towels, board games books and other items donated in anticipation of next weekend’s garage sale.
There was more to come, but, well, was no room just yet. The seniors still needed the room for line dancing.

The Dakota County Fair is looking for the names of seniors who do a lot to help their community.
The county fair is currently accepting nominations for its annual Outstanding Senior Volunteer award. The award recognizes the important role volunteers play in the community.

The United States Post Office has played an important role in Jim Weir’s life.
The postal service kept him employed for much of his life, for one thing. Weir spent 35 years working for the government, starting as a substitute carrier and eventually working his way up to management.

Kohlbeck recognized for efforts on behalf of Farmington seniors

And that’s why Rambling River Center coordinator Missie Kohlbeck is very flattered by the recognition she received last week. Kohlbeck was given the Outstanding Senior Services Award from the Minnesota Association of Senior Services.

Schumacher grew up on a farm near Alexandrea, one of six children. She liked roller skating and dancing. Her father played the accordion, and she would travel with him when he performed with his band.
