Road work will reroute parade 
What do Saturdays and the Walnut Street reconstruction project have in common? The 2010 Dew Days parade, of course.
Not only will the upcoming Grand Day parade be held on a Saturday - a change from the long-standing tradition of having it on a Sunday - but the parade route will be slightly altered this year, thanks to reconstruction work on Walnut Street.

First District judicial race is already getting crowded 
It is rare for an incumbent judge to face a challenger, let alone two.
But this particular judge's seat in the 1st District, which covers Dakota, Goodhue LeSueur, McCloud, Scott and Sibley counties, and is currently held by Timothy Bakely, already has three candidates for the position as of Tuesday. There will be a primary election in August.

Pariseau wraps up final session at the capitol 
Pat Pariseau’s final session as a Minnesota Senator ended with a flurry of activity and some sleepless nights.
Pariseau, the Farmington resident who is retiring after 21 years in the Senate, went most of last weekend without sleep as legislators wrapped up their business. But she said she rarely felt tired. She went from the capitol to church Sunday morning without so much as a stop at home to freshen up.

County will upgrade security 
Improvements are planned this year in the security systems in both the Dakota County Law Enforcement and Juvenile Services centers at the Dakota County Government Center in Hastings. The total cost of the improvements this year is expected to be about $366,000. When the entire project is completed by 2013, the estimated cost is about $1.24 million.
