Letter: Teachers deserve more respect 
I recently read a New York Times opinion piece titled, High Cost of Low Teacher Salaries. It makes this point: in the military, our soldiers are sent out to do a job. If that job fails or is not done correctly, or has a history of not performing well, the focus of criticism falls on leaders who plan the support efforts.

Letter: Reform, fairness are focus of K-12 finance plan
The guiding principle for the Minnesota House Education Finance Committee this year was simple: Kids first, no exceptions, no excuses. And if we’re going to put kids first, we have to recognize that every student should be treated fairly by our funding system no matter where they live. For too many years, education leaders have not supported this basic fact of education. Those years are over.

Letter: County acted slowly on pothole
How many of you who drive on 195th Street, aka Co. Rd. 64, west towards Flagstaff, have had to swerve into the eastbound lane to avoid the pothole by Meadowview Elementary School? Well, I made the choice to avoid a head-on collision on the evening of April 20 and hit the pothole, blowing out my right two tires and destroying my front wheel.

Letter: Residents should speak up on franchise fees
Being unable to attend the Feb. 22 Farmington City Council meeting, I took the opportunity to view it on the city’s web site. I was encouraged to see that two citizens took the time to speak out about the franchise fee the city wants to impose.

Letter: Board ‘convicted’ without hearing both sides
If you have ever watched a movie of a trial of an individual accused of an offense, your emotions run the roller coaster up and down as the trial develops through the normal stages. The prosecuting attorney presents the case against the individual with his/her witnesses. The accused party looks guilty.
