Boys basketball: Slow start leads to third straight league setback 
Games against two of the top teams in the Missota Conference didn’t help a Farmington boys basketball team that was already struggling to score points.
The Tigers were dealt an 83-48 home loss by conference-leading and fourth-ranked (Class 4A) Chaska last Tuesday, then managed just 14 first-half points in a 53-45 setback Friday night at New Prague. The team has failed to reach 50 points in eight of its last 13 games.

Close games haven’t been kind to Farmington over the last couple of years.
Entering last week, the Tigers were 6-15 in their last 21 games decided by single digits. That dated back to a 53-51 section tournament loss to Winona at the end of the 2008-09 season.

Boys basketball: A forgettable start 
A physical Shakopee team made life tough for Farmington on both ends of the court during Friday’s Missota Conference opener at Tiger Gym.
The Sabers established a 33-15 rebounding advantage, forced 26 turnovers and held the Tigers to 27 percent shooting from the field during a 70-37 win.

Wyandt cleared his bench in the second half of Friday’s season opener at Tiger Gym and 17 Tigers got in the game. Thirteen scored points in a 74-43 rout of section rival Rochester John Marshall.

Boys basketball: A team in transition 
It looks to be another year of transition for the Farmington boys basketball team.
Missota Conference champions two years ago, the Tigers said goodbye to four senior starters that provided the bulk of their scoring and rebounding after the 2008-09 season. The team managed to go just 7-20 in 2009-10 as four seniors — Kyle Winkelman, Justin Lavey, Connor Duffy and Mike Jolliff — once again combined to score 43 of the team’s 60 points per game.
