Volleyball limps into post-season
A year ago at this time, Farmington was hitting its stride just in time for the start of a long run through the Section 1AAA volleyball tournament.
The Tigers ended up winning six games in a row en route to their first-ever state tournament appearance. This year’s much less experienced squad showed flashes of competitive play during the season, but heads into next week’s section tournament having lost five in a row while falling to a record of 8-18.

Volleyball: Tigers go 1-3 at Burnsville tourney
A 1-3 showing at the competitive Burnsville Tournament has the Farmington volleyball team sitting at 8-16 heading into the final week of the regular season.
But the Tigers still have something to play for. A sweep of Chaska and New Prague this week could vault them to third in the Missota Conference and earn them a home game in the opening round of the upcoming Section 1AAA Tournament.

Volleyball: Ups and downs continue
The results were mixed for the Farmington volleyball team during a recent stretch of three home games in six days.
The Tigers played point-for-point with an undefeated Rosemount team during a 3-0 loss last Tuesday at Tiger Gym, then came out sharp before losing some focus and playing sloppy in stretches during back-to-back victories over Red Wing and Albert Lea.

Volleyball: Passing struggles at South
There’s nothing like a quality opponent to help a coach evaluate his own team’s weaknesses.
Eighth-ranked (Class 3A) Lakeville South did just that for Farmington head coach Mike Woody Thursday night. Woody’s group of largely inexperienced passers struggled and that led the Tiger offense to shut down during periods of their 25-19, 25-13, 25-11 road loss.

Volleyball: Tigers open with sweep
A little adversity didn’t affect the new-look Farmington volleyball team in its first game of the 2010 season.
The Tigers, playing with a lineup that featured just two returning letterwinners from last year’s state-qualifying team, overcame a five-point deficit late in Game 2 and held on after a back-and-forth Game 3 to score a season-opening 25-17, 26-24, 27-25 sweep of Hasting Friday night in Hastings.
